thanks for replying.
I did upgrade the firmware and prepared Windows image on uSD (tried both images for Gen 1 Galileo). Didn't try to telnet to native Linux - will try on Monday.
Must the Ethernet cable be crossover or not? Or it doesn't matter (some devices understand what kind of cable it is)?
I'll try also to disconnect everything I can - let's see what it does. Adam has mentioned antivirus here, we have Avira, but it might block communications similarly.
The board seems to be booting Windows fine - it blinks for couple of minutes, then stops. But dev PC just doesn't see it...
